Rakko Inc. provides the Kawaii Companion - Anime Chat application (“Kawaii Companion”, “the App”). This Privacy Policy explains how information is processed when you use the App.

Because the App generates replies using AI models that run on external servers, messages you send are transmitted outside your device. This policy explains where they are sent, why they are used, and how they are stored.

Chat Content and AI Processing

International processing of your chat content

When you send a message, chat content is transmitted through Rakko Inc.’s server to OpenRouter and an AI inference provider and is processed outside Japan.

  • What is transmitted: The chat message you enter, the conversation history needed to generate a relevant reply, and, when server-side summarization is required, the existing memory summary.
  • Who receives it: OpenRouter and the AI inference provider selected for the request. The providers currently used are DeepInfra, DigitalOcean, Parasail, and, for moderation, DeepInfra or Together AI.
  • Country of processing: Under the configuration Rakko Inc. currently uses, processing occurs in the United States.
  • Purpose: Generating character replies, moderating content for safety, and generating conversation summaries.

The United States does not have a comprehensive federal privacy law, but it has federal laws for particular sectors and state privacy laws. The Personal Information Protection Commission of Japan publishes information about the privacy framework in the United States.

We use encrypted connections, do not send chat content to advertising SDKs, and do not store chat content in Rakko Inc.’s application database. We use external services that provide the same or an equivalent level of protection for user data as described in this Privacy Policy and required by applicable law and platform requirements. Links to their policies appear in the “External Services” section below.

If you do not want your chat content processed outside Japan, do not send messages in the App. Do not include information in a chat that you do not want an AI service provider to process.

Moderation and conversation summaries

  • Moderation: Before generating a reply, the App performs a server-side safety check through OpenRouter.
  • Conversation summaries: The App processes conversation summaries on supported devices so characters can remember earlier conversations. Otherwise, the content needed for the summary is sent through Rakko Inc.’s server to OpenRouter.

Storage, retention, and model training

Rakko Inc. does not store chat content on its servers or use it to train AI models. Chat content is not intentionally included in application logs.

OpenRouter states that it does not retain prompts and completions unless optional input/output logging is enabled. Inference providers have their own logging and retention practices and may retain inputs or outputs for purposes such as abuse prevention, security, or legal compliance. Provider practices may differ by endpoint and may change. See OpenRouter’s data retention documentation and the provider privacy policies linked below.

Information Stored on Your Device

The App stores chat history and memory summaries on your device. Content needed for replies or server-side conversation summaries is also transmitted as described above.

Information Processed by Firebase (Google)

The App uses Firebase to provide the service, analyze usage, improve stability, and prevent abuse.

  • Anonymous identifier and service limits: Anonymous authentication creates a random user ID, and usage counts are stored in association with this ID. This information is used only to prevent abuse and manage service limits. Chat content is not stored.
  • Usage and diagnostics: App usage and diagnostic information, such as crash data, is processed to analyze and improve the App. Chat message text is not intentionally included.
  • Notifications: An installation identifier and push notification token are processed for remote notifications.

Firebase may process pseudonymous identifiers, IP addresses, device and app information, event data, and diagnostic data. Rakko Inc. does not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or login credentials through the App. Google explains service-specific data and retention periods in Privacy and Security in Firebase.

Advertising

Free users may receive rewarded advertisements through Google AdMob, with mediation through Meta Audience Network, Vungle, and Pangle. If you grant permission through Apple’s App Tracking Transparency (ATT), your device’s advertising identifier (IDFA) may be used for advertising. If you decline, the IDFA is not used for that purpose. Chat content is never sent to advertising SDKs.

Subscriptions and In-App Purchases

Apple processes subscriptions and in-app purchases through the App Store. Rakko Inc. does not collect, access, or store your credit card number, billing address, or other payment details.

Your Choices and Deletion

  • Advertising identifier and notifications: Change tracking permission in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking and notification settings in iOS Settings > Notifications.
  • Chat history and memory: Deleting a conversation in the App deletes its messages and memory summary from your device.
  • Other data: Deleting the App normally removes data stored on your device, but some values stored in the iOS Keychain may remain. Deleting the App alone does not delete the Firebase anonymous user record or rate-limit record.
  • Requests: Because Rakko Inc. does not collect your name or contact information, we may be unable to associate you with a particular anonymous user ID. Contact us to ask about available access or deletion methods.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, including encrypted communications and access controls. However, no method of internet transmission or electronic storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Children’s Privacy

Kawaii Companion is rated 18+ and is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that someone under 18 is using the App, please delete their conversations in the App or delete the App, and contact us if needed.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy. We will post the current version and its last-updated date on this page and, when appropriate, provide notice of material changes in the App or by other suitable means.
